A pipe clamp is a clamping device used to fasten, route and support pipes, tubes and hoses along a wall, frame, skid or machine structure.

 

It holds the line firmly in a fixed position while it carries fluid, gas or hydraulic pressure.

 

A standard pipe clamp is built from a few simple parts: two clamping jaws (also called clamp halves or shells) that close around the pipe, a weld plate or mounting plate that fixes the assembly to the structure, and a cover plate held down by a hex bolt. DIN 3015 Standard Explained: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3

Most quality pipe clamps are built to DIN 3015, and the standard is split into three parts. Knowing which part you need is the fastest way to specify the correct clamp.

 

  • DIN 3015 Part 1 — Standard (Light) Series: The most widely used clamp for general hydraulic, lubrication and instrumentation lines. It handles everyday pressure and vibration in a compact, economical body.

     

  • DIN 3015 Part 2 — Heavy Series: A reinforced clamp for high-pressure systems, large pipe diameters and heavy mechanical loads. It uses thicker jaws and larger bolts to resist pressure surge and impact.

About Materials: Choosing the Right Clamp Body

The clamp body material decides how the clamp performs against temperature, chemicals, fire and load. Bu-Lok offers three engineered options:

 

Polypropylene (PP) is the default choice for most piping. It resists a wide range of oils, fuels and chemicals, dampens vibration well and offers the best value for high-volume projects. Identified by its green colour.

 

Polyamide (PA / Nylon) handles higher temperatures, higher mechanical stress and abrasive or impact-heavy environments. It is the preferred body for tough industrial and mobile-machinery duty. Identified by its black colour.

 

Aluminium is specified where a non-combustible, electrically conductive or high-temperature clamp is mandatory — for example offshore decks, engine bays and fire-safety-critical zones. Identified by its natural silver finish.

 

For the cover plate, weld plate and bolt, Bu-Lok offers mild steel with zinc trivalent (A3C) coating for standard environments and Stainless Steel 304 or 316 for marine, offshore, chemical and washdown environments where corrosion resistance is non-negotiable.
